Assistant Financial Controller Job. Salary 250,000.

Our client, a world-renowned hotel and leisure operator in Kenya is looking to fill the position of Assistant Group Financial Controller based in Mombasa Kenya.  Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the purpose of this job is ensuring compliance of financial transactions to approved financial policies, procedures and control systems.  The key objective for this role is to ensure the maintenance of accurate records; the timely availability and reliability of financial information; effective cost control; timely and accurate reports; and effective utilization of resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main responsibilities in this role include
Participating in formulating and implementing sound financial accounting policies, procedures, strategies and systems that ensure effective control and accountability of the group resources.
    Complying with financial accounting standards and regulations, implementing policies, procedures and standards on financial accounting in the group.
    Facilitating maintenance of accurate accounting records in the group.
    Reporting on the group’s performance and preparation of financial reports covering areas such as variance analysis, cost control initiatives.
    Overseeing the treasury function ensuring optimum utilization of the group’s cash resources and bank facilities.
    Coordinating and managing the credit control function while ensuring receivables are maintained within the agreed credit limits/age.
    Coordinating payment of suppliers in accordance group policies and procedures.
    Handling internal and external audit queries to ensure they are effectively resolved.
    Safe custody of Group financial records including maintenance of Fixed Assets Register.
    Overseeing the preparation and submission of statutory returns.
    Budgeting and budgetary control for the Group.
    Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
    Direct supervision of the entire staff in the finance department.
    Travel from time to time to other trading units in the Group to streamline accounting practices and offer guidance where necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent must possess the following minimum qualifications and competencies:
    A university degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics or other course of a numerate background and must have relevant professional qualification – CPA (K), ACCA, CFA or equivalent.  A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
    8 years work experience in a busy and professional environment, preferably a large and busy chain of hotels, in a finance or audit function.  At least two years should be served in a supervisory role.
    Excellent understanding and application of management information systems with working experience with ERPs (Enterprise Resource Applications) knowledge of Opera Materials Control & Sun Systems an added advantage.
    Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly MS Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
    Good understanding of IFRS and Taxation issues
    High level of analytical & performance management skills and attention to detail.
    Good reporting and communication skills.
    Ability to work with minimum supervision.
    Proactive and able to take initiative to propose and implement new approaches.
    Flexibility, integrity, the confidence to think differently and ability to make sound judgment.
    Strong degree of self-motivation and drive, high ethical standards, values and principles
    A team player with the ability work and communicate in a culturally diverse environment

Remuneration:  The starting salary for this position is KShs 250,000 gross (negotiable) per month plus benefits. The salary offered will be dependent incumbents experience and demonstrable contribution.
