Laboratory Technicians at Savannah Cement in Nairobi – Kenya Jobs, Career and Vacancies

Savannah Cement is the newest cement player to get into the Kenyan market and is currently about to complete a state-of –the-art greenfield cement grinding plant in Athi River Kenya. The plant will employ the latest cement technology in the market to produce 1.5 million tonnes of various cement types per annum for the Kenyan and regional market. Savannah Cement is seeking to recruit highly motivated, dynamic, innovative and result oriented professionals, seeking a thrilling and fulfilling experience, to join the company in the following positions:

*LABORATORY TECHNICIANS *

This position reports to the Quality Control Officer. The Laboratory Technicians are required to sample, prepare and perform specific analysis raw materials, coal, clinker and cement, and to ensure that all the products meet the set product quality specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, construct and calibrate test spectrometer programmes
  • Check accuracy of equipment regularly
  • Implement required laboratory standards, prepare and analyze the average sample and key in results in required format within specified times
  • Confirm compliance with standard specifications and safety standards and prepare monthly records of test results
  • Check the efficiency of various sampling stations in the works and laboratory equipment and communicate any malfunction; and
  • Report and record all operational incidences that affect quality and ensure that appropriate corrective action is taken.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of a Higher National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, a basic first degree will be an added advantage.
  • 2-3 years working experience in a busy quality control laboratory preferably in cement manufacturing or related industry
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good Technical skills; and

A high level of integrity, excellent conceptual, reporting, communication, team relations and analytical skills.

General Function:

Internews Network is seeking a Country Director to manage an 18-month conflict mitigation project in Central Somalia, working with a local radio partner.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and implementing the project, and ensuring financial and technical compliance with the terms of the award.

This is a full-time post based in Nairobi.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall project management.
  • Coordinate with local media partner in setting up, operating and overseeing output of 3 community radio stations in Central Somalia.
  • Mentor local media partner in management, administration and sustainability planning.
  • Devise and manage training programs for Somali journalists and civil society organizations.
  • Coordinate safety and security training for journalists and staff.
  • Liaise with funders, other media, civil society stakeholders and local authorities.
  • Ensure the project is in compliance with donor and Internews regulations and that all required reports and workplans are produced to deadlines.
  • Fluency and computer literacy in English
  • Minimum 5 years radio broadcasting experience, preferably in community radio
  • Minimum 4 years management experience
  • Experience living and working in East Africa; experience in and knowledge of Somali culture or language an asset
  • Experience writing and reporting for grants
  • Experience implementing USAID or other donor-funded projects
  • Journalism education or experience, specifically in broadcast
  • Experience managing a small office, setting up and operating radio stations and transmission facilities
  • Experience with conflict mitigation and prevention
  • Ability to travel within and spend time in the field, and to function within security protocols in risk areas.

Pest Control Technician Required

Our client, a pest control organization is looking for a Pest control technician.

Candidates applying should:

  • Have experience in rodent and insect control including the treatment of termites and cockroaches.
  • Installation and monitoring of UV insectocutors and management and monitoring of rodent bait stations.
  • Be adept at administering gels, sprays, rodent baits, snap traps and other standard pest control treatments safely.
  • Demonstrate an in depth knowledge of the correct dosages and application methods as well as awareness of health and environmental considerations.
  • PCPB /AAK training preferred
  • Must be a team player with excellent written and spoken English.
  • Presentable with good communication and organization skills.
  • Motorcycle license an added advantage.
  • Applicants must hold a valid certificate of good conduct.
